How to Start a Business

A business used to mean a group of employees supervised by Administrators who worked under the chairman. Now a days it can be two men and a repair shop or a teenager and his laptop. Long ago people had secretaries, now they use PDAs and before that the internet was a company tool by it's now its greatest asset. Technology has truly reshaped the Business world, I bet you can't name one teenager who doesn't own a cellphone or know how to use a computer. The possibilities are endless for the coming years, and now anyone can create a business within seconds.

How Business Works

A company is composed of Admins or stockholders who decide what products are going to sell and how they will be sold. They gather once in awhile to discuss new strategies and possibilities, each time bringing new ways and product improvements into the business. A company isn’t only an efficient entity that relies on itself, al the other buildings surrounding it are its influences, maybe even its inspiration. Steve Jobs was influenced by HP to create the Mac, and Gates was inspired by Apple to create Microsoft.

While making decisions for is own product, a business spends half the time looking at other items. For instance two Businesses are selling a product. As they compete they inform the customers about their invention, and go to other companies to sell their service. The other corporations decide whether the product could benefit their staff and consider a few things:
  • "Will it improve working conditions?"
  • "How will it bring more profits?"
  • "Will it be costly?"
  • "How will it help production?"
If all the Administrators agree then a few products are bought for company use. Competing companies also make proposals once in awhile, such proposals could result in the combining of two business entities or the creation of a new product. This makes competitors helpful, in fact, a company couldn’t survive without its competition.

Good Marketing Strategy

In starting your own company values are more important than knowledge of your market, and information about your customers is more useful than money. A man with no money and principles will make profits, but a clueless person with a lot of cash will loose it all. Know what your target market wants, because a successful business is one that satisfies the needs of it's consumers and benefits them. Take note that it will feel 'new' to customers, when someone sees something new they become curious and excited if it solves their problem or benefits them extensively.

Most people put their resources into consumer benefits, giving the best quality possible and getting a return on their investment. If you've got a side job the trick is to invest time in learning about market planning and decision-making. After this put half your capital into your idea. Know your business niche so you can determine your target market and consequently: your competition. A good strategy is to use customers to get ahead of the competition.

Know Your Abilities

Different people have unique strengths, your skills are the handy assets of work. Some are creative, others are logical and some are grammar geeks while the rest are mathematical. With your creativity you could make beaded bags and bracelets, or sell paper lamps. Tech savvy people commonly sell repair services and many sports enthusiasts teach for a living. Some people have a musical intelligence which can be honed to teach singing or instrument classes.

Others who are more visual can create photo studios with their homes or magazine companies. Whether you’re applying for a Business or starting one, knowing your expertise is key. A job application will require a Resume which is a list of your skills, including your work experience. You’ll have to write down even the simplest detail, like “knows how to use photoshop” or “programmed a mini-game”

Your intelligence may be something you enjoy, so choose a business that you love doing. Being good at it makes you efficient, but liking it allows you to focus and effortlessly make the most out of it.But don’t limit yourself to your intelligences, each person has all of them, and can improve each one with time.

Save Wise

Without the proper knowledge of saving it, people wouldn’t have enough money to start a business in the first place. Managing your money is one thing, maintaining your company bank account is another. You don’t have to calculate all your transactions at the beginning, but having a spending journal will teach you to reason out with your needs and the businesses needs.

In your off time, think about your basic needs: shelter, food, clothing and transportation, and weigh them with your wants: pool, chrome lamp or new LCD screen tv. Come up with a fair budget for ‘wants’ and needs and make sure you’re convinced it’s enough. Provide for the businesses needs and it will provide yours later on. This is called Fiscal Responsibility- the record keeping bit of it.

The next step is keeping the cash in the right place, depending on the bank you place it in, your money will grow with interest. So pick a trusted bank that runs on ATM machines, and get yourself updated yearly about banks with high paying interest. You’ll be surprised to find that most unpopular banks pay with high interest to get more customers. The more money you have in the bank, the bigger it will grow. Each time your given salary you should split your money into four aspects:

  • Spending
  • Saving
  • Investing
  • and Taxes
Write down how much you plan to invest in each, keeping in mind that your spending for the company as well.

Work Ethics

The word ethical means being 'fair' or reasonable. Work Ethics are the Do's and Don'ts of a business which protect society's welfare. Without such values people work together efficiently. Being ethical is being honest, respectful, responsible, disciplined and cooperative. For instance, irresponsible employees wouldn’t come on time, or disrespectful people wouldn’t enjoy working with each other and a dishonest worker might end up stealing company resources.

Even the chairman is expected to be disciplined and accountable, from the employees up to the Admins he makes the biggest decisions of all, and all issues are placed on him. In fact, an experienced businessman is determined by his ability to make the ethical or right choices in complicated situations.

When a customer is angry, he knows how to sedate him without ruining the company image, if his products are harming the environment he uses different materials. Core values allow a Business to make ethical decisions like selling for ‘fair’ prices, providing quality service and respecting a customers right to speak.

A corporation becomes unreasonable when they don’t raise a brow to feedback or drop their jaws to public views, the thinking doesn’t take much but the improvement does. When a company does this the environment gets unhealthy, consumers become aggressive, employees resign and it looses money- what’s more is now you have something worse than the government up your ass-the opposite.

You must be responsible and considerate of your surroundings, don’t sell unhealthy items which damage the economy, but rather the best quality your budget can provide. Now a common problem in a company is the insufficient amount of resources that doesn’t conform with the demand, due to defective items or expired goods.

An equipped Administrator finds a way to increase the surplus resources by using wholesale and retail, or creating promos such as “by-one-take-one” to sell the excess materials.
